West Regional Shield – GHK 9, Glasgow Accies 10
Glasgow Accies scored the only try of the match in a pulsating game with Anniesland rivals GHK on Saturday when the sides met in the quarter-finals of the RBS Shield, writes Alan J Dunipace.
The wind and rain did not appear to hamper either side as both teams showed remarkable skill and resilience in serving up a cracking encounter that had a sizeable crowd on edge right to the final whistle.
GHK opened the scoring with the first of three Scott Robertson penalties. Accies hit back immediately with a fine try by Brad Bell and although GHK did get their noses in front by half-time,the feeling was thatwith the elements behind them, Accies would cruise to victory in the second half.
The visitors did finally edge ahead with about 20 minutes to go. Thereafter they mounted a fine defensive display that somehow kept GHK out. A Mike Aird ‘score’ was disallowed by the referee and Robertson was just wide with a late penalty chance.
